Design with Intention

When Jenepher Terrion, owner of Sage Home Services Interior Design, set out to renovate her 1940s house, the goal was more than just an update, it was a complete transformation. At the heart of this two-year project was the kitchen. Her vision? A space built on meaningful choices: sustainable, timeless, locally made, and beautiful. Every finish was selected with care, rejecting trends in favor of quality and meaning.

A Kitchen That Reflects Personal Values

The new kitchen tells a story of values-led design. From repurposed materials to handmade finishes, every choice prioritized sustainability and longevity. “I don't believe in changing decor every few years as trends change because this is wasteful, disrespectful to the planet, and unnecessarily costly." Made from locally sourced recycled glass and crafted in Minnesota, Bicycle Glass's pendants aligned seamlessly with these values.

Living Through the Mess

After two years of living through dust, noise, and constant change, the homeowners transformed their space from top to bottom. The kitchen renovation included removing an old addition, reclaiming a bedroom, and updating everything from the layout to the roofline. One of the biggest challenges? Cooking in a makeshift basement kitchen for three months!

The Role of Lighting

Lighting played a transformative role in the final look and feel of the kitchen. “The moment I saw Bicycle Glass’s recycled glass pendants, I knew they were exactly what I was looking for,” Jenepher said. “I adore their green tint, the handblown quality, and the gorgeous glow.” The pendants now hang above the kitchen island and in the cozy coffee nook, casting a soft, ambient light.

Advice to Fellow Renovators

Jenepher offer this advice: "Have a design plan from the start so that all decisions are made in relation to the plan, rather than randomly or independently. This simplifies the decision making process but also ensures that the finished project is coherent, cohesive and coordinated."
